Team Leader

Location: Abeokuta, Ogun State
Report To: Care Home Manager

Job Purpose

The Team Leader is responsible for supervising caregivers and other care staff to ensure the highest standard of person-centred care for elderly residents. The role involves coordinating daily care operations, supporting staff development, maintaining compliance with care standards, and promoting dignity, respect, and quality of life for residents.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Supervision

  • Lead, supervise, and support caregivers and other care staff.
  • Organise duty rotas, allocate responsibilities, and monitor staff performance.
  • Conduct handovers, briefings, and regular team meetings.
  • Act as the first line of support for staff queries and escalate issues when necessary.

Resident Care & Wellbeing

  • Ensure residents’ personal, health, emotional, and social needs are met.
  • Monitor and update care plans in line with individual requirements.
  • Encourage independence, dignity, and respect for all elderly residents.
  • Respond quickly to incidents, emergencies, and changes in residents’ health.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to Bayink Care Homes’ policies, procedures, and care standards.
  • Promote health, safety, safeguarding, and infection control practices.
  • Maintain accurate care records, incident reports, and staff attendance logs.
  • Assist in audits, inspections, and quality assurance processes.

Training & Development

  • Mentor and coach caregivers and junior staff.
  • Support onboarding and training of new team members.
  • Identify skill gaps and recommend training needs.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Maintain effective communication with residents, families, management, and external professionals.
  • Collaborate with nurses, cooks, cleaners, and admin staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Report safeguarding concerns or performance issues promptly.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • OND/NCE/HND/B.Sc. in Health or Social Care, Nursing, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in elderly care or caregiving, including 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Sound knowledge of elderly care practices, safeguarding, and infection control.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage conflicts.
  • Proficiency in record keeping and basic IT use.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position with shift flexibility, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Based at Bayink Care Homes Limited, Abeokuta.
  • Involves physical duties (e.g., assisting residents, moving equipment).
